Carvajal Packaging and the community got together to build a house for Lilia, a crab fisherwoman from the port city of Buenaventura, Colombia. Carvajal Packaging organized a drive with the community to recover 6 tons of plastic disposables through an initiative called “A roof for Lilia.”
Using a method called Bloque-Plas, the plastic was recycled into the components of the building. This was Carvajal Packaging’s second house built in Buenaventura and is the beginning of a program to recycle over 300 tons of plastic residue into housing for low-income residents of this Pacific port.
